Healthy employees are the most valuable capital for any employer
Every year, thousands of construction workers are exposed to safety and health hazards that put their health and lives at risk. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the risks associated with working on construction sites. The campaign covers both safety and health risks, drawing on European and national statistics to select the jobs and activities with the highest number of work-related injuries and illnesses.
For example, the safety risk campaign focuses on work at height, as the second most common cause of fatal workplace accidents is buildings, structures and surfaces, with falls from height and depth being the main cause. In the area of health risks, for example, the campaign focuses on exposure to respirable crystalline silica dust. It is estimated that around 5 million workers in the European Union are exposed to crystalline silica. Silica dust is classified as a group 1 carcinogen, which means that it is considered a definite cause of cancer.
Only massive and targeted education of employers, employees and other stakeholders in this area can serve as a significant preventive tool. The aim is to save employers the financial costs of dealing with the consequences of non-compliance with OSH on construction sites.
The IF YOU WANT TO SAVE, BET ON A SAFE CONSTRUCTION SITE campaign was announced by the Occupational Safety Research Institute, under the auspices of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs in cooperation with the Czech-Moravian Confederation of Trade Unions. The media partners are BOZPinfo.cz, BOZPprofi.cz and Wolters Kluwer ČR, a. s.
