Early and effective prevention is the best way to ensure occupational safety

The employer is obliged to create a safe and harm-free working environment and working conditions by appropriate organization of occupational safety and health protection (OSH) and by taking measures to prevent risks. The aim of these measures is to minimize the probability of an occupational accident, damage to the employee’s health or other extraordinary events at the workplace. One of the measures is, for example, the allocation of personal protective work equipment (PPE) designed to protect people. They are intended to protect against a specific risk and prevent or reduce the impact of dangerous and harmful factors of work and the working environment. Successful company managers have already understood that investing in health and safety will definitely pay off for them, both economically and in the form of a good evaluation as an employer who values the health of its employees. These employers thus bet on prevention and realized its economic and business benefits.

However, some employers still put the economic side of the company first and treat health and safety as more of an economic burden. They often argue that the probability of an occupational accident or damage to an employee’s health is small, so investing time and money in this area is not worthwhile for them. At the same time, however, statistics indicate that one occupational accident occurs every month due to missing, insufficient or inappropriate PPE.
